Description(1) This road now goes rapidly uphill. After around 1300 m, you will reach the Wildmoos mountain pasture. Cycle past the mountain pasture, and turn to the right at the fork (2). The route proceeds along the edge of the forest. After around 500 m, a path branches off to the right – but we keep cycling straight ahead. The route now goes uphill. After a short while, we reach an intersection with several signposts (3). There, take a right in the direction of Kreithlift. Although a number of forks and branches appear in the road, we remain on Route No. 49 in the direction of Kreithlift or Weidach. After a while, the route to the Katzenkopfhütte branches off to the left. We continue cycling straight ahead, and after around 300 m you will get to savour the glorious view over the Leutasch Valley and Weidach. We than cycle down the forest road across the skiing piste. At the Weidach junction, we take a right and cycle into the town centre. At the next junction, at the Albrecht department store, we turn to the left and then – after 300 m – turn into a narrow path before the bridge. We are now cycling to the right of the Ache. We cross the next bridge, and continue cycling along the left bank. At the next bridge, we again switch banks for the last time, and - after the bridge - continue cycling along the left bank of the Ache. At this point, the route is almost always level. At the camping site, the route narrows slightly; we following the blue signposts at the camping site. After the camping site, the route crosses back to the right-hand side of the valley, and remains on the right until we reach the road again at the mill. Throughout the journey, we follow the signposts pointing to Burggraben. | rest – we continue on our way and enter Mittenwald. On the road, we turn to the right and cycle past the Aral petrol station. A little later, we turn to the right, cross the Isar and, after the bridge, turn to the left again. Shortly after passing the tennis courts, the road becomes a gravel path. At the first fork, we keep to the right, remaining on the wider path. The path now takes us through the Mittenwalder Riedboden, a glorious site of natural beauty bisected by the Isar. The route first takes us across a meadow before we enter the Lerchenwald forest; we remain all the while on the gravel path. After a few S-bends, a narrow path branches off to the right and a few signs indicate the border. At that point, we turn to the right, thus reaching Porta Claudia. Porta Claudia is well worth a visit. Afterwards, we cross the Isar bridge to the road, and then turn to the right. We cross the border, and follow the road through Scharnitz. After leaving the village, we turn to the right into the next paved road. At the houses, we turn to the left, thus reaching the sports ground. We then cycle past the sports ground on the right. We remain on this path, which, although narrow at first, soon widens again. A path branches off to the right before a bridge. At that point, we cycle straight ahead, reaching the edge of Gieβenbach village. The route now bends sharply to the left. We cycle to the right, passing Gieβenbach, crossing a meadow and cycling along a stream to the Bodenstraβe. We continue cycling uphill along the Bodenstraβe until a path branches off to the right: we turn into the path. After a short while, the paved road becomes a gravelled road. At the first fork, we keep to the left instead of cycling straight ahead further up the mountain. A signpost shortly appears pointing to the Bodenalm: at this point, we turn to the left. We cross a stream, lift our bikes over a fence, and then cycle straight across a meadow. To the left of the meadow the trampled path turns into a paved route. We follow this route, passing the Bodenalm. After around 300 m, we turn to the right at a shed and cross the stream again. We follow the route between the fences, keeping slightly to the left. We now cycle on the gravelled road back towards Seefeld. After a short steep stretch (around 500 m), we reach the Triendlsäge. From the Triendlsäge, we follow the paved road and, at the Birkenlift, re-enter Seefeld. There’s just one more short climb, and then we cycle comfortably back to our starting point. |
